Styrofoam soup bowls are a common alternative to paper soup bowls for take-out packaging. Styrofoam bowls can be recycled in theory, but most recycling facilities do not accept styrofoam. In fact, entire loads of waste can often be rejected by facilities for recycling if styrofoam is present in the load. The reason is that styrofoam is largely comprised of air and needs to be compacted to be dense enough to recycle. Most facilities don’t have the equipment necessary to compact styrofoam into a dense enough shape to reuse. Unlike styrofoam, paper soup bowls are completely recyclable and widely accepted in recycling programs. This makes paper soup bowls the more eco-friendly option.
Our custom paper soup bowls are 100% recyclable in cities that accept disposable paper cups for recycling. You’ll need to verify with your city to make sure the bowls can be recycled. Some cities do not accept the bowls because of the PE lining, which is more difficult to repurpose than paper and cardboard.
