Why Composting Matters

Composting is a natural process through which organic matter – such as food scraps, leaves, and yard clippings – can be turned into a valuable fertilizer. Anything that grows will eventually decompose. Composting speeds up the process by offering an ideal environment for bacteria, fungi, and other decomposing organisms like worms to break down the matter.

The end result of composting is a product called compost, which is often referred to as “black gold.” It is nutrient-rich and can be used in a variety of agricultural applications, including home gardening.
